Joint House Committee reviews working of Health institutions


SRINAGAR, JUNE 08: - The Joint House Committee of Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Council constituted on alleged medical negligence of doctors in Government Medical College (GMC) Jammu met here under the chairmanship of MLC, Ghulam Nabi Moga and discussed various issues regarding Committee's recent on the spot visit to GMC Jammu and its associated Hospitals.

Legislators, Ghulam Mohammad Saroori, Ali Mohammad Dar, Firdous Ahmad Tak and S Charanjeet Singh attended the meeting and gave their views to strengthen the functioning of the hospitals of the state.

The Committee discussed the measures to be taken to further improve the healthcare and infrastructural facilities in Government health institutions in the state so that the common people could be benefited.

The Committee opined that healthcare is the fundamental right of every citizen, for which the Government spends lot of funds, and authorities must ensure that best treatment is ensured to every needy. 

They further called that health authorities should be made more transparent and accountable to restore the confidence of patients and every effort should be made in this regard.

The Committee directed the Council Secretariat to obtain action taken report in respect of the directions passed during the recent visit of the Committee to Government Medical College Jammu, Super Speciality Hospital Jammu, SMGS Hospital Shalimar, Government Hospital Gandhi Nagar and Government Hospital Sarwal Jammu.

The Committee decided that to conduct on the spot visit/inspection of Lal Ded Hospital and G B Pant Children Hospital Srinagar on 29th, June 2018, SMHS Karan Nagar and Rainawari Hospital on 30th June, 2018 and to SKIMS and Bone & Joint hospital on 2nd July, 2018 respectively.

Secretary, Legislative Council, Abdul Majid Bhat, Deputy Secretary, Council, Mohammad Yousuf Bhat, besides other senior officers and officials of Council Secretariat were also present in the meeting.
