Estimates Committee (EC) of Legislative Assembly has asked the concerned authorities to make payment of wages for the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA), CDS and MPLAD works to the engaged workers through pays account cheques or invoice and furnish the action taken report to the Committee within a week’s time.
The Committee, which met here under the chairmanship of MLA G.M Saroori, said that the payment of wages through cheques would enforce transparency in the system and make it sure that the workers get their dues well in time.
The meeting held a threadbare discussion on various issues including last year’s report of the Committee, relief to the drought affected farmers and damages caused due to flood in Jammu region during last summer session.
It was decided that the committee would meet on every Thursday to examine and review the working of various departments. The meeting also decided that the committee would conduct on the spot inspection of completed and ongoing projects in the twin districts of Rajouri and Poonch from 10th December.
The committee recommended for providing three months free ration to the areas of the State where the crops suffered 60 to 80 per cent damages due to long dry spells this year. The committee observed that the survey conducted by the Revenue Department has already confirmed that many areas suffered more than sixty per cent crop damage due to the draught like situation.
Legislators, Dr. Mustafa Kamal, Balwant Singh Mankotia, Ch. Zulfikar Ali, Subash Chander Gupta and Indoo Pawar gave their suggestions to improve the working of the committee.
