It is not an attack on Congress; it is an attack on democracy.

Jammu, May 27: - Former J&K Minister and MLA Inderwal Ghulam Mohammad Saroori today condemned the incident on Congress leaders in Chhattisgarh, saying it was an attack on the democratic values.

Saroori expressed shock and anguish over the attack on Congress leaders in Chhattisgarh. "It is an attack on democratic values which need to be condemned by not only political parties, but society as a whole," Saroori said in a statement.

"Saroori convey his heartfelt condolences to those who have lost their loved ones and wish the injured a speedy recovery. My thoughts and prayers are with them in this difficult hour. May the Almighty give them courage and fortitude to bear with this tragedy," he added.

The Chattisgarh government is answerable for the reported lack of security arrangements for the yatra beside the government has failed in protecting legitimate political activity and has brought into question the whole security issue.

Saroori said as per report no security, other than personal security officers, was provided to Congress leaders who were taking out the Parivartan Yatra in the state.
