PCC president G. A. Mir unfurled the party flag at party HQ in the presence of senior leaders and large number of party workers of the district Congress committee Jammu under the leadership of Sh. Anil Chopra. The activists of mahila Congress, youth Congress,NSUI, and seva Dal also attended in large numbers.
Addressing the gathering the PCC Chief Sh. G. A. Mir and senior leaders and functionaries of PCC recalled the long history of Congress party which is full of sacrifices during the freedom struggle and post independence. Prominent leaders who addressed Peerzada Mohd. Sayeed (Ex-President PCC) Sham Lal Sharma, Rigzin Jora, Madan Lal Sharma, Mula Ram, Raman Bhalla, G. M. Saroori, Haji Rashid Dar, Mohd. Anwar Bhat, Kanta Bhan.
Mr. Mir remembered the contribution of great leaders and crores of workers of the party who fought against the mighty British rulers and underwent numerous sufferings and sacrifices for the sake of attaining freedom for the country. The 132 years of history of congress party and this great nation can’t be segregated but unfortunately those in power at the centre are trying to distort the historical facts and belittle the role of congress stalwarts in order to make younger generation to forget the contribution and sacrifices of congress leaders & workers for the nation.
The senior leaders said that it was the vision of congress and its great leaders that the numerous challenges before the nation at the time of freedom were successfully overcome and India today has emerged as a great power and is a leader in various fields in the World. India is recognized in the World as a messenger of peace, and a vibrant democracy which is known for its unity in diversity. It is because of the principles, policies and the programmes framed by the Congress party and incorporated in the Constitution of Independent India which withstood the test of the time and the Country has marched on the path of peace, progress and prosperity and emerged stronger by maintaining unity in diversity by respecting the pluralism of this country
The speakers cautioned the people about the challenges posed to the basic idea of India and secularism promoted by the Congress party and asked the Congress workers to defeat the designs of communal and divisive forces in the country. They said that Congress party is a movement and it has to fight against the forces who spread hatred in the society and pose challenge to the unit and integrity of the country and the state.

Sain Rashid Anayat Rather, Surinder Gupta, Shashi Sharma, Manjit Jatt, Chetan Wanchoo.
Later the District Congress distributed Sweets and organized a community lunch to celebrate the occasion.
