Construct model chowks instead of entry gate at Kishtwar: Saroori demanded

“Slash transport fares across J&K”

JAMMU, January 19: - Senior Congress leader and MLA Inderwal, Ghullam Mohammad Saroori today demanded immediate construction of model chowks instead of entry gates in Kishtwar.

Saroori said that as Road and Building (R&B) department Minister in 2010 he has sanctioned Rs 20 Lakhs for the construction of model chowks at Kishtwar out of which Rs 06 lakhs were sanctioned for the compensation of the excise buildings.

He said there is a dire need for the construction of model chowks instead of entry gates at Kishtwar as proposed in 2010 by him. He said authorities should immediately dismantle the both the buildings of excise department and should start the construction of the model chowks and make the way for the widening of road from Bus stand to Kendriya Vidyalaya Kishtwar.

Saroori has also asked the Transport department to immediately reduce the passenger fare as the prices of diesel had been slashed by the oil companies.

He said that when diesel prices go up then some Transporters come out and cry for the hike in fare but when the diesel prices have been slashed down and no one from transporters’ association are demanding about reduction of passengers’ fare. He said that people are already reeling under financial burden and there is dire need for reduction of passengers’ fare as the existing passengers’ fare are more than justified rate.

The common man on the road should get full benefit from falling crude prices. The authorities should immediately issue new rate list for the fares. "Not only that the prices of essential commodities should come down as the transport for the import and export has become cheaper," Saroori added.

Saroori also said that Commissioner Secretary Transport department should come clean over the issue and make strict directions to Department to take immediate action for reducing the passengers’ fare as the transporters are fleecing the passengers at every front.

Congress leader also urge the Governor of the J&K N. N. Vohra to intervene in this matter and take people friendly and justified decision for reducing the passengers’ fare beside full benefit of the fall in global crude prices be passed on to the people.
