Modi government trying to weaken the SC/ST act: Saroori

BJP-RSS ideology is to divide the country, spreading anger and hate; PDP-BJP coalition govt failed to provide Pani, Bijli and Sarak

Congress holds massive protest in support of SC/ST communities in Kishtwar

KISHTWAR, APRIL 07: - Congress Party staged a protest at district headquarter here in Kishtwar against the failure of BJP led government in preventing to dilute the Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act through a Supreme Court order.

Led by Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC), Vice President and MLA Inderwal, Ghulam Mohammed Saroori, a large number of Congress workers gathered at Dak Bungalow Kishtwar and marched towards the old DC office Kishtwar. They were shouting slogans against the centre and state government, denouncing the move to dilute the Act, enacted to protect the interest of the SC, ST people.

Addressing party workers there, Saroori said the Congress has always stood firmly in support of issues that concern the depressed classes. He said that the SC/ST Act was passed under the prime ministership of Rajiv Gandhi to protect the SC and ST community from atrocities and presently party chief Rahul Gandhi is raising his voice on these issues.

"Dalits, SCs, Gujjars, nomad communities are facing distress and many families stand devastated because of the atrocities committed on them," he said and added that government not committed to ensuring the welfare of the Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes and the underprivileged sections of the society. He said that Congress party have already asked the Centre to either bring an amendment to the said law or file a curative petition before the Supreme Court but till date no concrete steps have been made by the government. On the one side BJP-RSS ideology of dividing the country, spreading anger and hate, other side ideology of brotherhood, love and peace by Congress party. RSS and BJP's thinking is different from Congress.

Saroori also said that PDP-BJP coalition government has totally failed to address the problems of the people of the state including Pani, Bijli and Sarak. "Since they (BJP-PDP) joined hands, the miseries of the people of Jammu and Kashmir have increased manifolds. While the BJP cheated people of Jammu, the people of Kashmir were cheated by the PDP," Saroori said. He said that all the promises made to the people prior to the Assembly elections of 2014 remained unfulfilled. "More than three and half years have passed but they have failed to fulfill any of the promises, be it the problems faced by the rural residents, 7th pay commission, be it the problems faced by the farmers, be it the problems of Kashmiri people, be it issue of providing basic essential things.

The slogans of ‘Change’ and ‘Ache-Din’ of PDP and BJP have proven a hoax as they have failed on all fronts. The inherent contradiction within the alliance has brought the state to chaos and confusion. The two parties have been attempting to polarise situation in the state to hide their failures on governance front,” Saroori said.

Among others Mushtaq Ahmed Hap, Mahinder Singh Parihar, Haji Ghulam Mohd Kohli, Mohd Iqbal Keen, Chowdhary Farooq Ahmed, Chowdhary Ishaq, Asgar Hussain Khangi, Firdous Ahmed Mingnoo, Waseem Maker, Waseem Sajjad Saroori, have also addressed the protestors. They said in the wake of the Supreme Court order diluting the provisions of the SC/ST Act, the Narendra Modi government showed none of the sense of urgency which was on display during the triple talaq issue", the Congress leaders alleged.
