9 people died in Sinthan Sumo accident



Saroori expressed shock over accident on Kishtwar-Sinthan road

Chatroo (Kishtwar), July 08: - In a yet another road accident in erstwhile Doda district, nine persons died when Tata Sumo bearing Registration No. JK17-840 meet with an accident near Potato farm resulted into the on-spot death of all the nine occupants traveling in the said departmental vehicle owned by the Sheep Husbandry Department on Kishtwar-Sinthan-Srinagar National Highway some 70 KM from Kishtwar.

As per reports around 10:00 AM in the morning, the ill fated vehicle was on its way to Warwan via Sinthan top for organizing a special camp of the department to facilitate better Medicare to the live stock in the area when it skidded off the road and rolled down into deep gorge near Machrari Morh belt of tehsil Chatroo.

After receiving information about the accident, police party from police station Chatroo, Medical team from PHC Chatroo, Veterinary team, Army personal from Chingam, local people and villagers rushed to the spot and shifted all the dead bodies to Primary Health Center Chatroo and District Hospital Kishtwar.

After conducting all medico-legal formalities and autopsy, police handed over the dead bodies of deceased to their relatives for last rites.

As per police reports, all nine dead have been identified as Dr Mohd Rafiq Akhoon District Officer Sheep Husbandry Kishtwar (DSHO) S/o Sanavullah Akhoon (57) R/o Kishtwar, Dr Amir Kamal Veterinary Assistant Surgeon (VAS) S/o Ghulam Nabi Kamal (30) R/o Kishtwar, Abdul Rehman S/o Lassa Reshi (58) R/o Chatroo, Irshad Ahmed S/o Ghulam Mohd Wani (42) R/o Sheri Chatroo, Satlal Sharma S/o Gosawamu Ram (40) R/o Berabhatta Kishtwar, Ghulam Ahmed S/o Mohd Ramzan (58) R/o Mullar Chingam, Darshan Kumar Assistant Stockman S/o Munshi Ram (52) R/o Samba Jammu, Abdul Kareem S/o Ghulabo (26) R/o Balana Sigdi and Rakesh Kumar S/o Prem Nath (40 ) R/o Loidhar.

Meanwhile Ghulam Mohammad Saroori, Senior Congress Leader and MLA Inderwal expressed deep shock and grief on the loss of precious lives in today's tragic accident.

Saroori has conveyed his heart felt condolence to the family member of bereaved families and prayed for eternal peace to the departed souls. He also prayed to Almighty Allah to give strength to the family members of the deceased to bear irreparable loss.

Conveying his heartfelt condolences to the families of those who have lost their lives in yet another tragic road accident, Saroori called upon the State Government to take serious note of the underlying causes of the recurrent road accidents.

“Current, heart-rending accidents in Chenab Valley have become a matter of deep and abiding concern for all of us, adding that we have to part with precious and quality human resource in these tragic road accidents. “Even in today’s accident, most of the dead are Government employees who were on their way to respective places of duty”, Saroori said.

Saroori also blame General Reserve Engineering Force (GREF) authority for today’s accident as 20 km stretch of Kishtwar-Sinthan road where accident took place is in deplorable condition causing lot of inconvenience to the people from Kishtwar-Sinthan. He urged upon the Union Government to immediately release remaining Rs 344 crores for Kishtwar-Sinthan road for improving road condition including surfacing and pre-mixing of the said road that connects Islamabad (Anantnag) district with Kishtwar.
