"Today is a black day for India`s democracy when Deputy Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha, Anand Sharma and Congress leader from J&K Salman Nizami were publicly attacked with sharp-edged weapon by government protected ABVP goons on the JNU campus.

The Congress leader’s were attacked by BJP backed, ABVP activists while participating at a protest meet held at Jawaharlal Nehru University against the police crackdown in the campus on Friday.

MLA G.M.Saroori said, this attack on Congress leaders is not acceptable to us. India is not this. Such attacks tarnish India's image all over the world. India feels threatened today by these elements.

The prime minister should put his foot down and say this is not acceptable to us. The Congress leaders didn't commit any fault. They went there to express solidarity with the protesting students. If you force people to silence and then say we are for making India beautiful, you are not making it so," he said.

Mohammad Amin Bhat said, this is a deliberate attempt of frustrated BJP and RSS leaders to attack on Congress, and suppress those who expose BJP’s agenda just to divert their failure in the government.”Such attempts would not be tolerated and police should take stern action. All assaulters should be arrested.
