Saroori asks party cadres to gear up for 2014 LS, J-K assembly polls

Congress to field Azad from Udhampur


Thathri (Doda), 20 March: - Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) President Prof Saifudin Soz on Wednesday said that the list of candidates for Jammu-Udhampur and Ladakh, the three Lok Sabha seats has been finalized and the party is waiting for a final call to be taken by its president Sonia Gandhi.


In a meeting with party carders from Inderwal in which G M Saroori, Congress senior leader and MLA Inderwal said that Ghulam Nabi Azad’s name has been finalized for Udhampur Lok Sabah seat after hectic deliberations on Tuesday evening. 


He said that Madan Lal Sharma’s candidature has been declared from Jammu Lok Sabha seat and he has submitted his nomination papers on 20th March at 2:30 pm.


“Azad sahib’s and Mr Sharma’s names have been declared by the Congress high command. People here in Jammu province have already welcomed the party decision.


Fire crackers were set off at Thatri, Kishtwar, Bhallessa, Bunjwah, Chatroo and other adjoining places besides that sweets were distributed in Udhampur, Kathua and Reasi by people irrespective of with which religion they belong to,” Saroori described the scene.  

He said that the party is still indecisive about Ladakh parliamentary seat and no official or unofficial announcement has been made in that regard.


Saroori who is also the member of Congress campaigning committee in the Jammu province further asked the party cadres to brace themselves up for 2014 Lok Sabha and state assembly elections.


“You should keep this enthusiasm and feeling alive because now the time for the test is coming. This is the last few months to make this party strong as 2014 is the election year…first the Parliamentary elections, then the J-K assembly elections,” Saroori said addressing workers at the party headquarters Thathri.


Saroori said the party needs to be ready for the elections to ensure success and take the state forward. “We have to make our party ready so that we win the next elections with good success and take this state forward,” Saroori told workers.


“You will see Congress party in a new face, with new enthusiasm… a new life will be enthused into the party and new activities will take place which will benefit the party workers,” he said. 


Saroori said more efforts will be made to address the aspirations of party workers, adding local leaders should also take the workers into confidence before any work is done.
