Saroori hailed Azad for sanctioning 4 GMC’s and 2 Cancer hospitals for J&K


Demanded 4 more Medical Institutes for Kishtwar, Udhampur, one for Rajouri Poonch and Uri

Yet another gift for the people of J&K from Azad

Jammu, 18 February: - Senior Congress Leader and MLA Inderwal, Mr. Ghulam Mohammad Saroori today has hailed and expressed gratitude to Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) and Union Health Ministry’s decision for establishment of four new medical colleges and two cancer hospitals in the Jammu and Kashmir state. Terming it as a landmark initiative aimed at improving the healthcare infrastructure, Saroori has said that it will pave way for enhancement of quality healthcare in the State.

“Decision to set up 4 new medical institutions in J&K including one in erstwhile Doda district is yet another gift for the people of the state from Union Health Minister Mr. Ghulam Nabi Azad adding that such a step would significantly improve health facilities and medical education opportunities across the state”, Saroori said.

He said that the health sector in the country, under the supervision of Azad, has witnessed a number of reformative steps envisaging enhanced healthcare facilities with focus on expanding these vital services in rural and inaccessible pockets.

Saroori conveyed his special thanks to central leadership including UPA Chairperson Smt. Sonia Gandhi, Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh and Union Minister for Health and Family Welfare Mr. Ghulam Nabi Azad for paying special attention towards the development of State particularly erstwhile Doda District by extending special financial assistance.

“The establishment of these new colleges and hospitals will reduce the States disease burden besides taking health services in the unserved areas of the state especially rural areas. It will also provide more doctors and para-medical staff and increase the doctor-patient ratio which is currently low in our State beside will go a long way in improving the public healthcare delivery system to ensure that the treatment reaches everyone”, Saroori said.

Saroori further said that due to new Medical Colleges it will give a new fillip to education sector and open new avenues for the youth of far flung areas who want to pursue medical education at their door steps. He also demanded setting up 4 more new Medical Institutes at Kishtwar, Udhampur, Uri and one for Rajouri Poonch.

Earlier Azad had sanctioned Super speciality Hospitals one each for Jammu and Kahmir regions beside sanctioned Rs 14 crore for procurement of 200 ambulances for Jammu and Kashmir and 600 new sub-centers including 238 in hilly and remote areas for J&K and many other schemes which directly benefit the patients just to boost the health sector in the state.

It is pertinent to mention here that Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) approved the establishment of 58 new medical colleges which will be attached with the existing district or referral hospitals. The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare proposal that got approved, will lead to established of medical colleges by upgradation of existing district hospital in deficient States with intake capacity of 100 MBBS seats in each medical college. This will result in an increase of about 5,800 seats.

The Central assistance share will be of Rs. 8,457.40 crore while, State/UT share of Rs. 2,513.70 crore.
