Coalition in J&K hungry for power; Addressed public gatherings at Kahara and Chatroo

Pays obeisance at Shah Asrar-ud-Din (RA) shrine


Kishtwar, August 21: - Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha Ghulam Nabi Azad today described the BJP and PDP as power hungry parties saying that there is nothing common between the two.


Addressing the two public gatherings at Kahara and Chatroo areas of Inderwal Constituency here, Azad described the present alliance as a combination of opportunist and power-hungry forces, who exploited the sentiments of the people.


The functions was organised by the Vice President JKPCC G. M. Saroori-(MLA Inderwal).


While addressing the gatherings Azad said the BJP sought votes to keep PDP (Baap-Beti) away from power, while the PDP did the opposite in the Kashmir valley. He stated that the BJP exploited the sentiments of people of Jammu by various slogans of abrogation of Article 370, rights to PoK West Pakistan refugees, delimitation of constituencies, plots to the border residents, besides promising a Chief Minister from the region.


Azad said that Congress party would fight for the rights of the people of Jammu and Kashmir. "We will fight for your rights and will not allow the Government to deprive you of what is your due," Azad said. Despite inclement weather, Azad held detailed interactions with the people of Inderwal constituency who briefed him about the progress of various works in their respective areas.


He said that BJP exploited various emotional issues in Jammu region, especially Article 370, citizenship of West PAK refugees, reservation of seats for POK refugees, issues of border residents and assurance to have chief minister of Jammu region and more particularly to prevent PDP from coming to power. He said that PDP sought votes from Kashmir to keep BJP out from power, besides its agenda of self-rule and other such issues which were totally oppose BJP ideology.

He said that for the last six months the present coalition has created numerous controversies and vitiated the atmosphere in the state because of their wrong policies and inherent contradictions. He said that two parties openly admit their ideological and other differences in all important issues but still want to stick to power.


Azad referred to the plight of farmers in the state and elsewhere in the country, said that Modi led Government has adopted its pro-corporate approach and the falsehood on various issues are getting exposed day by day. He said that prices during the past one and half year of the ‘Modi Government’ have exposed the hollowness of slogans of ‘Achhe Din’ of the Modi led government.


Vice president, PCC, G. M. Saroori in his address lodged his scathing attack on PDP & BJP government for its policies and said that the peace and normalcy was achieved after great sacrifices by the people and the security forces and the same would not be allowed to be derailed. He asked the people especially the youth to act as watch dog on the rights of common people and not allow the BJP to sell the interests of their electorate for sake of power. He said that the Congress will play a pro-active role of protecting interests of people of the state and the nation.


Saroori asked the Congress workers especially the Youth to come forward and strengthen the Congress party which has always taken care of the interests of all weaker sections and poor population.


Earlier, Congress leader from Kahara and Chatroo in their welcome address referred to the various difficulties of people of different areas of district Kishtwar and Doda especially the farmers, MGNREGA payments, Contractors payment, non-availability of basic amenities and sought his intervention. They said that farmers and poor people are facing great hardships as their crops have been totally destroyed in recent unseasonal rains.


Leader of Opposition (LOP) in Rajya Sabha Ghulam Nabi Azad along with Vice President JKPCC G. M. Saroori paid obeisance at the dargah of famous Sufi saint Shah Asrar-ud-Din (RA) and prayed for overall development, peace and the prosperity of the people of the State.


Azad spent over 30 minutes at the dargah of Shah Asrar-ud-Din (RA) in Kishtwar. “He offered prayers seeking for the peace, prosperity and tranquility of state”. He performed other rituals at dargah of famous Sufi saint Shah Asrar-ud-Din (RA) along with by Dargah's spiritual.


Later Saroori hosted a dinner party here at his residence at Kishtwar. The dinner was participated by the all the local Congress leaders from district Kishtwar. MLA Saroori shared good wishes Azad and prayed for his good health and success. 


Reciprocating the wishes, the Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha prayed for peace, development and prosperity of the State and its people. Azad appreciated the role of Mr. Saroori in maintaining the communal harmony and honest approach in dealing with political and development affairs.

Among others Ghulam Haider Sheikh, Mushtaq Ahmed Hap, Mahinder Singh Parihar, Piyaray Lal Shan, Mohd Aslam Malik, Ghulam Haider Wani, Asgar Khangi, Chowdhary Issaq, Abdul Rashid, Ghulam Mohd, Altaf Malik, Santosh Kumar, Ghulam Mohd Kohli, Abdul Majid, Firdous Ahmed and other Congress leaders also spokes on the occasion.
