Congress observes silent sit on Dharna in Jammu




 

Paid tribute to Mahatma Gandhi
 

JAMMU, JANUARY 30: - J&K Pradesh Congress today held a silent sit in Dharna at Shahidi Chowk Jammu and observed the day as “Save Constitution-Save Country” Day to commemorate  the martyrdom of Father of Nation Mahatma Gandhi.
 

Led by PCC President G. A. Mir (Former Minister) Senior leaders of Congress including former Ministers, Ex-MP,  Ex-MLAs/MLCs, DCC Presidents, heads  of  frontal wings and leaders of  different organizational units held a Silent Sit – in  - Dharna  bearing black badges and carrying play cards of “Save Constitution-Save India”.
 

The Congress party marked the martyrdom of Mahatma Gandhi as “Save Constitution Day” to highlight the anti democratic and unconstitutional actions of BJP Govt. thereby disturbing the peace and Social and religious harmony as well as weakening the Constitutional and democratic institutions in the Country. They observed two minutes silence as a mark of respect to the father of nation and sung the National Anthem  at the start and end of the function.
 

Paying rich tributes, to father of nation President  JKPCC Shri G. A. Mir referred to the great contributions of Mahatma Gandhi for the nation and asked the people to remember the ideology and philosophy which killed Gandhiji. He said that the Congress workers and all right thinking citizens have to fight and defeat the ideology which killed  father of nation and regretted that those glorifying the killers of Gandhiji can never be the inheritors of the philosophy of Gandhiji. The nation can only remain united and strong by following the philosophy of Mahatma Gandhi, he said.
 

He said that father of nation preached  non-violence, religious brotherhood and truthfulness and to respect the diversity in our pluralistic society to keep the country united and strong and maintain peace and harmony. India attained a place in the community of nations as a messanger of peace with capabilities to maintain unity in diversity. Today the ideals and philosophy of Gandhi ji is under threat in the country and it is time to follow and strengthen his philosophy and defeat the communal and divisive forces, he added.
