Women denied treatment at PHC Chatroo, several doctors, staff found absent




MLA Inderwal conducted surprise inspection of health institution found 14 employees absent

CHATROO, AUGUST 08: In a shameful act, the doctor at Primary Health Center Chatroo in Kishtwar District denied treatment to a lady on the pretext that no treatment is available in the hospital after 2 PM forcing the MLA Inderwal G. M Saroori to rush to the hospital which was found locked and several doctors, para medical staff was found absent from the duty after the concern MLA inspect the attendance register.

It was only after the interference of the MLA Inderwal Ghulam Mohammad Saroori, the lady patient who was hit by an Ox in abdomen and was suffering from the pain got the treatment. The injured lady after being hit by Ox was rushed by her brother to the PHC Chatroo for the treatment, but the doctor on duty refuse to treat her on the pretext that the duty time was over and allegedly advice the patient to visit the private clinic.

After denial of the treatment, the brother of the lady brought the matter into the notice of concern MLA Inderwal who was luckily present in the area and after hearing about it immediately rush to the hospital and found the hospital lock. After coming to know about the MLA visit to Hospital, the doctor immediately rush to the hospital and gives lamb excuses.

After examining the attendance registers of the staff including NHM doctors roaster, MLA Inderwal found that around 14 doctors and staff posted in the hospital absent from the duty and even found the attendance registers blank for first three days of the August month as there was no leave or any other thing mentioned about the absentees staff members which shows that the authorities at the helm of the affairs were hand in glove to promote absenteeism culture through mutually benefited agreement.

MLA Inderwal, G. M Saroori said that on the bases of the public complaints about growing absenteeism culture and non delivery of the health facilities to the people, he conducted a surprise inspection of Primary Health Centre (PHC) Chatroo of district Kishtwar and found the doctors absent from duty. He said that the visit was in view of the persistent complaints by the people regarding non-availability of medicos and paramedical staff in the hospital during odd hours.

“People from sub-division Chatroo complained that there were hardly any doctors to look after the patients--- this attributed the behavior due to the lack of strict action against the delinquent doctors-- despite tall claims by health authorities, most of the doctors in Chatroo even didn't bother to attend their duties while officials at the helm of the affairs are shielding and patronaging them" said Saroori. The angry people told MLA Inderwal that non delivery of health facilities has become the order of the day where people are being forced to visit private doctors for even minor things and appealed him to take up the matter with higher authorities and take exemplary action against the delinquents.

Saroori while inspecting PHC Chatroo found 14-17 staff members, including medicos, paramedics, and technical staff of the laboratory absent from the duty while hardly anyone was present in the hospital at the time MLA pays the visit. During his surprise visit to PHC Chatroo, Saroori directed the medicos and paramedics to remain present in the hospital as per duty roaster and provide round the clock healthcare facilities to the people of sub-division Chatroo of district Kishtwar as was promised to them. MLA Inderwal assured people of Chatroo that stringent action against them would be taken against the absent doctors and other staff. He said that he had brought the matter into the notice of District Administration hoping for action against erring absentee’s officials.
