G. M Saroori discusses Batote Kishtwar road upgradation with NHIDCL


Work on Singpora Vailoo tunnel will be started next year

KISHTWAR, SEPTEMBER 02: - Member of Legislative Assembly from Inderwal, Ghulam Mohammad Saroori convened a meeting of National Highway Infrastructure Development Corporation Ltd (NHIDCL) here to discuss upgradation of Batote-Kishtwar Sinthan road here at Kishtwar.

The corporation is working on construction of Singpora-Vailoo, Sudhmahadev tunnels and up-gradation of Batote-Kishtwar-Sinthan Pass-Anantnag road. The General Manager NHIDCL said work on Singpora-Vailoo tunnel, will be started next year as the consultant TPF Getinsa Euroestudios company has been assigned the job for the preparation of Detailed Project Reports (DPR) for two lane tunnels at Sudhmahadev (4.5 kms) and Singpora Vailoo (10 kms) and is likely to submit the report by the end of December this year which will be put for the bid in February next year.

Mr. Saroori said the construction of Singpora tunnel was his dream project and will not only shorten the distance but also provide all-weather connectivity between the two regions of the state. He also said it would also give a boost to the economic and social life of the villages on the two sides of the tunnel that is Chatroo Kishtwar and Vailoo Anatnag.

During the meeting, the MLA Inderwal discussed the condition of road with the concerned officers and asked for immediate stabilization of slopes to check frequent slides, installation of gadars at Kulligad landslide area, blacktopping on 100 meters area of Kulligad Drabshalla within a week time, installation of road crash barriers, construction of parapets and other issues related to the upgradation of the road.

The MLA Inderwal asked the NHIDCL General Manager to expedite work on restoration of Kishtwar-Sinthan Pass-Anantnag road by deploying adequate men and machinery for early clearance of landslides on various stretches and blacktopping on remaining portions. He desired that road upgradation should be started soon to avoid any further loss to precious lives and property. "As a people representative, this is my duty to resolve their issues and the better road connectivity is what the people of the area needed", Saroori said and stressed the need for capacity building of the local youth by big construction companies like NHIDCL so that they can become “part of the infrastructure revolution coming about across the country.
