Congress walkout from Assembly over regularization of daily wagers, ReT, NYC



No power on earth to snatch special status to JK; suspension of 2 NC MLA’s is undemocratic

Srinagar, Oct 06: - Congress party today said no power on earth can snatch the special status guaranteed under Article 370 of the constitution and the special position of Jammu and Kashmir within the country is non-negotiable. This was said by the third time Congress MLA G. M Saroori.


"Whether present government or whichever government comes (at the Centre) in the future time, the special position of Jammu and Kashmir is non-negotiable. Something has to be given and not taken. No one can take away this (Article 370) from the people of Jammu and Kashmir," Saroori told reporter here.


Congress legislators including G. M Saroori, Ajaz Ahmed Khan, Haji Abdul Rashid Dar, Mohd Amin Bhat, Usman Majeed, Gulzar Ahmed Wani, Asgar Ali Karbalaie, Mumtaz Ahmed Khan and Chowdhary Akram on Tuesday disrupted the proceedings of the state legislative assembly in summer capital Srinagar. The Congress lawmakers stood on their seats and shouted for protection of article 35A of the constitution and also sought regularization of daily wagers in the state.


Saroori who was leading in the Assembly from Congress side asked the government to regularize all the daily wagers, casual labourers in the state. 


“Shrugging off from responsibilities by either sides was against the public interests,” he said while asking the Government to regularise all those daily wagers, contractual staff, Adhoc, HR workers, casual labourers, who have completed seven years of service as per the norms in vogue besides implementation of cabinet order regarding regularization of NYC and regularization of Rehbar-e-Taleem (ReTs) as general line teacher after completion of seven years of service.

“This hapless lot had been put to tremendous hardships despite toiling hard in pressing circumstances. It is irony of sorts that these workers are not being paid even minimum wages,” Saroori said and added that it was a cruel joke with these youngsters, who have put in now about 10 years service in different departments following their adjustment against clear vacancies. He asked the government to dispense with ‘red tapeism’ and official wrangling vis-à-vis the files of adhocees and contractual lecturers.


On NYC hunger strike Saroori said four of the NYC members have been admitted hospital only today while more than 100 had earlier been referred to hospitals after their condition deteriorated, he said adding the Congress also supports Article 35-A, which has been challenged in the Supreme Court.


The protests started after the chair in the Assembly disallowed motions moved by Congress seeking suspension of Question Hour to take up issues like regularization of daily wagers, NYC hunger strike, ReT’s.


As the Question Hour ended in JK legislative assembly, Congress MLA’s staged a walk out from the house as a mark of protest against not allowing a discussion on Article 35 A and on regularization of daily wagers, NYC. The Congress members since the start of third day of Assembly proceedings jumped into the well and raised slogan against the PDP-BJP government and demanded a discussion on various vital issues however when their demand was not entertained and the Question Hour went on despite their uproar forcing the Congress MLA’s to stage walk out in protest.


On the issue of suspension of two of the National Conference MLA’s, Congress MLA Ajaz Ahmed Khan described Speaker Kavinder Gupta’s decision to suspend 2 National Conference MLA’s as "unfortunate" and said he was pressurized by the government. "The decision to suspend NC MLA’s by the Legislative Assembly speaker is undemocratic and we also strongly condemn the action. The ruling PDP-BJP is trying to muzzle the voice of the opposition", Another Congress MLA G. M Saroori said.
