Come clean on the fate of NYC volunteers: Saroori to government

‘Implement cabinet decision on absorption of NYC volunteers’

Srinagar, September 04: - Asking PDP-BJP government not to discontinue the services of National Youth Corps (NYC) volunteers, Vice President JKPCC and MLA Inderwal, Mr. G. M. Saroori who met and talked to protesting NYC volunteers, at Pratap Park Srinagar who are on hunger strike demanding implementation of cabinet order.

Saroori asked the state government to come clean on the issue and decide the fate of thousands of youth “who have been unnecessarily discontinued from their services.” He said that “the government has put the career and future of 6000 youth in jeopardy by deciding not to continue them from their services as NYC volunteers.”

“PDP-BJP devises new schemes but what about the NYC volunteers who were compelled to take to streets after being discontinued from services. Government talks much about the future of youth but at the same time, they have closed down options for youth to live peacefully,” Saroori said while addressing the protesters.

Saroori said that the permanent engagement of 6000 NYCs, working voluntarily in different departments, was decided in a cabinet meeting by the previous National Conference-Congress coalition government vide order number 192/CIR/2014 dated 22 October 2014 and secretary education vide number 737-EDU of 2014 be implemented in letter and spirit. The youth were taken as contingent workers in school education department against the vacancies which were created when previous government announced up gradation of 800 schools to their higher levels.

He said that the process was stalled for unknown reasons by the PDP-BJP government leaving 6000 youth in lurch. He said the government must take a decision in order to end sufferings of the families directly or indirectly dependent on the volunteers. The Congress leader also observed that the aggrieved unemployed NYC youth are running from pillar to post to get the cabinet order implemented and the present dispensation should at least honour a government decision that has been taken at the highest level.

“Expressing serious concern over deteriorating health of NYC volunteers and rued the insensitive attitude of the administration who have not bothered to visit or depute any medical teams to enquire about health of protesting NYC youth”, Saroori said and urged the government not to politicize future of youth for political interests and government must chalk out a comprehensive plan to address the menacing problem of unemployment.

Saroori urged the state government to decide the fate of thousands of NYC youth who are demanding justice and demanded the state government to implement it as early as possible.

J&K NYC President Asif Ali Bhat and other members of NYC also addressed and threatened to continue the strike till the state government comes forward and address their grievances.
