Extend Assembly session for 20 days, demands Congress MLA

MLAs delegation met J&K Assembly speaker seeks special session of the Assembly

Srinagar, September 06: Congress party MLA from Inderwal, G. M Saroori today demanded that the Assembly sessions, to begin from 29 September, should be extended to 20 days to discuss various burning issues people are facing now.

MLA G. M. Saroori accused PDP-BJP government of running away from discussing people’s problems. Holding the long overdue Assembly session for just 10 days clearly shows how serious and committed the government is in finding solution to various problems being faced by the people now, averred Saroori.

The government is scared of discussion on important public issues in the Assembly, that’s why it convened a session that will last for only 10 days to fulfill statutory obligation and wash its hands off, said Saroori.

Pointing out the escapist attitude of the government, he observed that PDP-BJP government is always looking for escape routes.

The government has completely become defunct. Now, it found the same escape route by convening a shortest Assembly session to avoid facing the wrath of public representatives’.

That’s the reason the present government is bold enough in taking unpopular decisions like transferring the officers daily.

Saroori said that it is highly unfortunate that government in J&K have failed to hold sufficient number of sittings or debates on issues of public interest, legislation and budgets. “This habit of holding sessions with fewer average days than the sessions of Parliament is taking a heavy toll on issues with huge public importance. It is advisable that the government convenes a special session to discuss these issues and come up with the solutions,” the Congress leader G. M Saroori asserted.

Meanwhile, a delegation of MLA’s including G. M Saroori, Haji Abdul Rashid, Shamima Firdous, Mohd Amin Bhat, Gulzar Ahmed Wani, Aijaz Ahmad Mir, Mumtaz Khan, Abdul Majid Larmi, Altaf Ahmad Wani, Dr. Krishan Lal, Muhammad Abbas Wani, Aijaz Ahmad Mir and Davinder Kumar Manyal called on Assembly Speaker Kavinder Gupta at his chamber on the Assembly premises here at summer capital Srinagar and urged him either extend the Assembly session or convene a special session of the Assembly in December in winter capital Jammu in view of present precarious situation facing people of Jammu and Kashmir.
