Saroori chairs Environment Committee meet


2.0 MLD STP to be commissioned at Nunwan Pahalgham soon

Srinagar, September 01: A meeting of Committee on Environment was held today here under the chairmanship of MLA, Mr. G.M.Saroori in the meeting Hall of Jammu and Kashmir legislative Assembly.


The members of the committee MLA, Mr. Abdul Majid Larmi, Mr. Altaf Ahmad Wani, Mr. Daleep Singh, Mr. Dina Nath, Dr Krishan Lal, Mr. Mohammad Abbas Wani, Mr. Gulzar Ahmad Wani and Devinder Kumar Manyal were present in the meeting and gave their suggestions regarding the environment and ecology.


Threadbare discussions were held on initiatives taken by the tourism department and pollution control board to protect and conserve the environment of the state by way of strict adherence to environmental laws and basic infrastructure being developed by the developmental authorities of Dodh Pathri and Kishtawar.


The meeting also discussed steps being initiated by the concerned departments for strict implementation of J&K Non-Biodegradable material (Management, Handling and Disposal) Act 2007 and status of the implementation of ban imposed on use of polythene at various tourist destinations.


It was also informed in the meeting that Sewerage treatment plant (STP) capacity of 2.0 MLD at Nunwan Pahalgham will be commissioned soon, Post environmental scenario at pahalgham and pre and post yatra water testing of Lidder and Sindh rivers were also discussed.


Among others Secretary Tourism/ MD JKTDC, Farooq Ahmad Shah, Chairman Pollution Control Board, Mr. Abdul Razaq and other officers of PCB, Tourism, besides Officers of assembly secretariat were present in the meeting.
