Kathua rape verdict: G. M Saroori welcome judgment

KISHTWAR, JUNE 12: - After the Pathankot Court convicted six people in the rape and murder case of an eight-year-old in Kathua district in January last year, Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC), Vice President and Former Minister, Ghulam Mohammad Saroori, welcomed the court’s judgment and said it will send a “strong message“ to the rapists and so called communal peoples.



Mr. Saroori while welcoming the court decision said finally, justice was delayed but not denied.



He said that it was not the fight of Asifa’s family only but of an entire nation. “Such a verdict was very much needed. It will now send a strong message that the system will not spare the people who indulge in rape crimes," Saroori said. He also appreciated the JK Police for getting the rapists convicted even though few so called communal leaders tried to sabotage the movement for justice to a little girl.



It is mention here that eight-year-old nomadic girl in Jammu and Kashmir was kidnapped on January 10, 2018, and was allegedly raped repeatedly in captivity in a small village temple in Kathua district after having been kept sedated for four days before she was bludgeoned to death.



The main accused, Sanji Ram, the village head, was alleged to have hatched the conspiracy along with the other accused Anand Dutta, Parvesh Kumar, Deepak Khajuria, Surender Verma and Tilak Raj. One accused was acquitted.



Mr. Saroori also conducted the extensive tour of Bonda, Pahalgwar, Dumber, Mullar areas and took stock of the grievances of the public. The issues raised by the people during the tour early blacktopping on various link roads, replacement of rotten poles, upgradation of schools, clearance of MGNREGA and IHHL liabilities, awareness camps of various departments, laying of pipes for better dirinking water facility besides other grievances. He assured the general public that all the issues will be addressed in a time bond manner on priority.
