Congress concerned over ration scarcity, erratic power supply

Saroori asks administration to address people’s problems without delay

Jammu, February 26 - Senior Congress Leader and MLA Inderwal Ghulam Mohammad Saroori has asked the administration to address the problems of the people especially who are braving biting cold in Kishtwar and Doda without power supply and rations.

In a statement issued here, Saroori said the shortage of rations in erstwhile Doda district particularly in Kishtwar and its adjoining areas speaks volumes about the insensitivity and callousness of the authorities. He said there is shortage of rations especially rice, sugar and atta in government depots across the state especially in hilly areas.

“Despite adopting a resolution asking the government to provide 35 Kgs ration to each family at the rate of Rs 2 per kilogram moved by me last year thousands of families are deprived of their right to food. The rations are not available in government-run depots and people in mountainous areas complain about the scarcity of other essential commodities like rice, flour, sugar and kerosene as well,” Saroori observed.

He called for providing rations according to the latest census as the population had increased over the past decade. “Large sections of the society have been left out of purview of the subsidized rations in the state and there is a dire need to enroll all such families without any delay,” he added.

The Congress leader remarked that there are multiple complaints about curtailment in normal ration quota from Erstwhile Doda district and directed all the TSO's of Inderwal constituency to immediately distribute free ration as was announced by the previous government for the flood affected families also on the basis of Chula basis.

Saroori asked the administration to take notice of the fact that a huge number of families are still deprived of ration cards and there is a dire need to reach out to such families and ensure that they get their due ration share per month.

“CAPD can distribute rations among such families on their identification by the local Mohalla committees,” Saroori said, while stressing on the CAPD to ensure adequate ration supplies especially rice, flour and sugar in government run depots across his constituency without any delay.

Referring to the erratic power supply in Jammu and Kashmir, Saroori said the unscheduled power cuts are giving difficult times to the people of rural areas especially during chilling winters.

“The pesky power cuts in areas both metered and un-metered are a cause of serious concern as there is hardly any alternative arrangements of heating available to the people in the area,” Saroori stressed while stressing on the Power Development Department to ensure smooth supply of electricity in the Valley and Jammu especially in the Kishtwar and Doda districts.
