Congress flays Modi govt over rise in Swine flu cases in J&k

Jammu, February 26: -Congress today flayed the Prime Minister of India Narindera Modi for being non-responsive to the rise in cases of swine flu across Jammu and Kashmir state, and other parts of the country.

In a Joint statement senior congress leader's which include MLA Inderwal G.M.Saroori, MLA Good-Arnas Aijaz Ahmed Khan, MLA Surankote Akram Choudhary, MLA Sopore Haji Ab.Rashid, MLA Devsar Mohammad Amin Bhat, MLA Mahore Mamtaz Khan, MLA Kargil Asgar Karbalie, MLA Shangus Gulzar Ahmed Wani, MLA Nobra Deldan Namgail, PCC Vice president Janak Raj Gupta, Spokesperson Salman Nizami, PCC Secretary Masood Choudhary accused the Prime Minister of tuning his entire cabinet into denial mode with regard to swine flu cases.

They said that Union Health Minister, initially denied the outbreak of swine flu and later, he finally admitted the deaths, but claimed that there were no more cases of swine flu in the country. Further, instead of issuing an alert, he dismissed all apprehensions and described swine flu as non-fatal and hence more and more people were getting infected by the disease every day, the congress leaders alleged.

Congress leaders also slammed the central govt for completely ignoring the health sector in J&K. They said that the government hospitals lacked doctors, nursing staff, equipment, technicians and even hygienic conditions.

They said timely dose of temiflu can save lives. PHCs and some other hospitals do not have sufficient doctors. As a result patients die without diagnosis & swine flu spreads. People are forced to visit private hospitals as government hospitals are not taking care of patients. Private hospitals are fleecing people. Government should adequately compensate the cost of treatment of poor and middle class patients.

Stating that they (Congress leaders) are not politicising the issue, they advised the government not to suppress the facts fearing criticism from the opposition parties.

They said that the precious lives of the common people could be saved by taking precautions and creating awareness.

The congress leaders appealed to the PM to take special interest and direct the officials to take the required measures to stop the rise of swine flu and other diseases in the State.
