Jammu, January 30: - On the martyrdom of Mahatma Gandhi rich tributes were paid to Father of the Nation during a function organized by Lawrence public school Jammu.

Vice President Gandhi Global Family S. P. Verma was the chief guest and senior member of Gandhi Global Family and MLA from Inderwal was the Guest of honour.

Paying rich tributes to Gandhiji, Padamshri Mr. S. P. Varma Vice President Gandhi Global Family said that it was the vision and high principles of non-violence, secularism, amity and peace that everyone rallied behind Mahatma Gandhi in the freedom movement who got freedom for the country through peaceful means.

He said other countries also took inspiration from Gandhiji and they too got freedom for their countries by marching on the path of non-violence.  He while appreciating the organizers for arranging a befitting function to pay homage to Gandhiji, said that all of us should take a pledge on this occasion to make Jammu and Kashmir a Khushal state of the vision of National President Gandhi Global Family (Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha) Mr. Ghulam Nabi Azad.

While paying tributes to Mahatma Gandhi, senior member of Gandhi Global Family and MLA Inderwal, Ghulam Mohammad Saroori exhorted the people to vow for development, unity and integrity of the state and follow the teachings of Mahatma Gandhi.

"Let us pledge on this day to sacrifice our life like Mahatma Gandhi for India's development, unity, integrity and to uphold her independence", Saroori said and added that Gandhiji's path of non-violence and love was the only way to solve the ongoing fight in the name of religion and caste.

“The piousness of the spirit lies in serving the cause of humanity, tieng the knots of love, brotherhood and stand like a rock against forces of hatred, communalism, racism and terror for which Mahatma Gandhi is the exemplary figure who stirred the world through instrument of non-violence and peaceful methods”, said Saroori.

Saroori called upon students to read extensively about Gandhiji, his life and principles to draw inspiration from him. He lauded Mr. S. P. Varma and his associates for doing excellent work in propagating Gandhian ideology of non-violence, peace, secularism, amity and brotherhood in every nook and corner of the state.

Principal of the School while paying tributes stressed for carrying forward the message of universal brotherhood and peace.

Describing Mahatma Gandhi as an apostle of peace and the real architect of freedom movement of India, he said that Martyrs like him always remain alive in the hearts of the masses for centuries to come.

Prominent among those intellectuals, media persons, political and social activists, Gandhian workers, NGOs, prominent citizens, teachers, a large number of school children and people attended the function at Lawrence public school.
